binary sounds is a digital music company built and run in partnership with students
nationwide. The company brings together students and music business professionals
to develop new products and services to meet the changing, and growing needs of
artists, the music industry, and listeners. To meet these needs, binary sounds creates
and implements new ways to discover, develop, distribute, and market new artists
and music.
Products include individual music compilations that are sold in the form of download
cards and online playlists by students as a means of raising funds. To create the
compilations, students invite local and unsigned artists to register at binarysounds.com.
Artists then register and upload their music at binarysounds.com, signing an artist
friendly, nonexclusive license agreement. The agreement allows binary sounds and
students to sell their music and compensates the artist for each song sold.
A portion from each compilation sale is set aside to fund artist development programs,
record deals, and live music initiatives all spearheaded by students. These efforts
are a part of an overall objective to create self-sustaining business models.
